The first step for starting SEO is finding out if the site is already indexed.
You can check this in Menu -> SEO -> Settings -> SEO
Scroll to "Google preview" to see the preview or click on "Check your site on Google"
You will see a Google page with search results for the query "site: xyz.TLD" which will tell you whether the site is already indexed and can be found.
If the site is not listed yet, Google and Co will not be able to find it at all (not even when typing the whole URL into the search field).
The page can be added manually at Google (https://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/submit-url) by just entering the domain into the field.
Sometimes, the time it takes for Google to index a site or actually rank it can be ridiculously long, as in it can take weeks, sometimes 3-4, and about 2 on average. There is not much we can do about this except advising the user to use SEO to the best of their abilities:
Index the page, perform at least most steps detailed in the SupportCenter (online and offline SEO) and regularly update the settings and the page will all help to speed this process up, though.
